I've had Chris as a tutor for math and science since 7th grade, and the results speak for themselves — in 11th grade, I started the year with low 80s and finished in the 90s, boosting not just my pre-calculus grade but my overall GPA. His approaches to teaching math and science are very engaging and mindful of the way I learn best. Before explaining a concept, he asks questions to see what I already know, and moves forward from there while incorporating my input — which has helped me feel comfortable throughout my whole experience with him. Chris is also very patient and explains concepts clearly. Whenever we hit a wall with a particularly challenging concept, or something we haven't covered in a while, we take a short break to research together and learn as we go, coming to a solution we're both comfortable with. In 9th grade, I was unfortunately left without a Living Environment teacher toward the end of the year, but Chris stepped up to help me wrap up the year and score high on the state test — on top of already helping me with projects and homework all year. My confidence in science was boosted a lot. It wasn't exactly my favorite subject back in middle school, but over the years I learned to love it, and have even pursued environmental and clinical science programs outside of school, all with Chris' support and encouragement. He's also given me feedback on essays and resumes, which has been reassuring. Finally, Chris recommends studying tips that are realistic and genuinely helpful — making sure to set up a routine that keeps you productive while still taking proper breaks, so you can be as successful as possible.

I can't recommend Chris highly enough — he has made a real, positive impact on my daughter's learning journey. Beyond homework help, he taught her techniques to manage test anxiety and build essential study skills, boosting her confidence tremendously. We first started working with Chris in middle school, and from the very beginning it was clear he's deeply committed to his job and genuinely cares about his students' success. Our son has ADHD, and getting homework done was often a real battle — but Chris met it with a patience and equanimity we'd honestly lost ourselves. He never lost his composure or his sense of humor. And our son's grades improved simply because he was finally getting his assignments in on time. That support helped him finish 7th grade and start 8th grade with more confidence academically, after what had been a genuinely difficult stretch in middle school. Chris was also flexible and always did his best to work around our crazy schedule — he even found his way to our new place 80 blocks uptown, on an entirely different subway line, when we moved between seventh and eighth grade. If we had a conflict, he was always willing to find another time, and even though his schedule often sent him home impossibly late for dinner, he never complained. When he knew he wouldn't be available, he always told us as far in advance as possible. Beyond the scheduling, Chris is simply a delight to work with and lovely to have around. He's kindhearted, easygoing, smart, open, honest, and empathetic — he always arrived in good cheer and ready to get to work, no matter how difficult a day (or a night with our son) he'd had.
